Yet fostering and maintaining a positive work environment can be tricky, especially when finding a balance and not ending up being underproductive and unprofessional. When empowered in this way, employees are likely to work both harder and smarter. 4. Avoid Scare Tactics An environment of fear is one of the worst places to work productively and positively. Try to instill in employees that mistakes are just opportunities and that taking risks should not be frightening. The ability to try and fail without fear will undoubtedly result in some surprising and innovative successes. 5. Be a Mentor If you aren’t micromanaging and are allowing your employees more freedom with their work, you’ll likely have more time on your hands, too. Use this time both to innovate new ideas, and act as a coach to your employees. Offer your expertise and advice without over-asserting authority, and instill confidence in your team. 6. Invest in Training One of the best uses for company budget is in training. Workplace success depends on individual employee success, and the best way to allow employees to flourish is by giving them what they need in a consistent way. 7. Check in with Employees If you’re feeling unsure about the workplace environment, you can always ask. Reviewing what employees think and working things around them will keep them both happy and productive. Job Seeker Uses Hire Me Campaign to Land Dream Job at Krispy Kreme Donuts 201 Flares 201 Flares Braden Young is a super fan of Krispy Kreme donuts.  Want to know how deep this passion runs?  Back before the tasty donut company opened up shops in Philadelphia, Braden would occasionally stop by the local Acme grocery store and pick up a dozen just for himself.  I must admit, it wouldnt have been rare to see me doing the same thing often during my college career.  Dont judge Braden and I until youve tasted a freshly made glazed Krispy Kreme donut!  Trust me, your life will never be be the same. Bradens Hire Me Campaign When Braden noticed Krispy Kreme was hiring for a Sales Marketing Manager, he saw an incredible opportunity to sweet talk the company through a creative Hire Me campaign. Genius!  Cornz is smiling! Braden explains his thought process further, Krispy Kreme Philly is very productive within social media, so I was positive one of their employees would eventually see my campaign. It just felt like a simple way to put myself out there and gain support from my network. Braden knew his idea was clever, and was certain someone would eventually notice his efforts, but Im positive Braden had no idea things would move so fast.  Are you ready for this?  It only took Krispy Kreme  4 hours to contact him  and then  3 days later he interviewed  for the role!  Holy Donuts, Batman! Oh, and I guess Ill put your curiosity at rest now.  Yes, Braden did get the job.  He is now Krispy Kremes Sales and Marketing Manager! What I love about Braden and this story is the fact that he never thought of sending a standard resume cover letter.  I figured that if I was going to go for it, I had to do it right and find a way to stand out, said Braden.  Oh boy, did it work!  The company said they were extremely excited to see his campaign, and couldnt wait to talk to him.  Jackpot, baby! How to Network Anywhere Networking is an important part of our professional growth. Sometimes we don’t take advantage of all of the opportunities we have to network, and sometimes we don’t realize that they are opportunities. But really, there are opportunities for networking everywhere. People are learning that you dont have to wait for an official networking event to make new connections. For example, our clients have secured job interviews through their childs daycare provider who knows other parents, and at their cousin-in-laws wedding. Other clients have attended social events like Boston Red Sox baseball viewing parties at a local bar in Atlanta and met strong networking connections because of the out-of-town connection. Taking these opportunities to network helps us build stronger personal connections. While you dont want to be nice to someone just to gain a business connection, in order to network with someone in your family or where you volunteer, you have to take a personal interest in them. That helps you both to have a stronger personal connection and can open the door for career opportunities. Hallie was honored to be recently interviewed for a Monster article about networking in surprising places you wouldn’t normally think of. Here are some additional tips when networking in unexpected places. If you network with people that you will see regularly, you dont want to come off too strong. Start by taking an interest in them as a person, not just a business connection. You will want to avoid putting them on the spot in front of everyone in your workout class and give them an out in case they dont feel comfortable. Start the conversation using a shared topic and then after its finished, you could say something like, I would love to keep in touch outside of workout class and give them your business card. Then ask if they would mind sharing their contact details. Look for a way that you could be helpful to them. For example, you could share your favorite spot for coffee or an article based on a conversation you had.
